Meet Patricia: A Modern Throwback to the Classics

A chic, unfussy and timelessly stylish crossbody bag, the Patricia is based on one of our most iconic bag styles (the ‘Patti’) but has been tweaked and subtly updated for today, courtesy of new premium materials, a sleeker silhouette and some unmistakable design features including its iconic Laurel Lock hardware.

A style to make your own, the Patricia is also available to be customised as part of our new made-to-order service exclusively at the MCM x Isetan pop-up store at Isetan Shinjuku. From classic styles to contemporary designs, explore our craftsmanship process and some of our favourite celebrity styles.

Origins

Patricia has been through many guises. Although it started out life as Patti - a simple, clean-lined shoulder bag available in ‘Klein’ (small) and ‘Gross’ (large) - Patricia’s evolution over the years has seen several variations on the original Patti, including Cleo in Cognac and White Visetos, the generously sized Chantal in cognac visetos and the geometric Robin Hood in Cognac Visetos.

Last year, to mark 40 years of MCM, the all-new Patricia was unveiled as part of our Heritage collection, a series of MCM icons that seamlessly fuse our legacy of craftsmanship with modern design. Today, the Patricia bag both nods to the styles that came before it and at the same time improves upon them. Available in small and mini sizes, it’s elegant, versatile and classically feminine.

In The Details

Each Patricia bag takes 36 hours to make. Deceptively simple in its design, the Patricia requires the work of skilled craftspeople to perfectly strike the balance between reliable function and flawless form.

Among its key features are an adjustable shoulder strap, a flap front featuring our signature Laurel Lock (a push-lock fastening that pays homage to the Greek symbol for victory), two interior compartments, an interior zipped pocket and exquisite leather accents in the form of a trim and a luggage tag that hangs from the strap.

“In order to create MCM bags a variety of specific tools are needed,” explains a member of our team at our dedicated leather workshop (or Lederatelier, as it’s locally known) in Apolda, Germany. “While this involves [conventional] cutting and sewing machines, the true ingredients of manufacture are the unique knives, rulers, scissors, needles and so on [that we use by hand]. Over four decades, MCM has refined this delicate process into an art.”
